Summary Purpose: To report a case with bulbar conjunctival amyloidosis
Case: An 87 years old Japanese female. She underwent cataract surgery in her both eyes and bilateral nasal conjunctivochalasis was pointed out at that time.
Under diagnosis of allergic conjunctivitis, steroid ophthalmic solution was administrated on her both eyes but her conjunctival changes had not been improved. Then, she was referred to our department because of papillary change occurred at nasal conjunctiva in her right eye.
Conjunctival hyperplasia and edema without the neovascularization in the lower part from the upper part of the limbus were observed in her right eye. As a result of resecting an affected lesion for pathological examination, no malignant findings and lymphatic dilation. Additionally, conjunctival amyloidosis was diagnosed definitively with positive for Congo red stain and birefringence under a polarizing microscope.
Residual abnormal tissue resection was additionally performed one month later.
Conclusion: This case was diagnosed as a localized amyloidosis with histopathological findings and no systemic amyloid-related diseases.
