Summary In this article, I would like to explore effective methods of active learning and ICT in an elementary school teacher training program, particularly in a teaching methodology class of foreign language activities. I also here concerned with improvement of teacher training curriculum because of limited hours of instruction compared to the foreign language curriculum made by MEXT. I had two classes of foreign language activities in elementary school teacher training program for 71 university students in the first semester 2017 and I used some methods for active learning and ICT devices such as PF-NOTE and Moodle (LMS). All of them completed the questionnaire form at the end of the classes. The result indicated that the classes with active learning and ICT were accepted positively. Especially, to learn other students’ opinions or thoughts at once through LMS helps students to notice a variety of thoughts and use a chance to reflect their own ideas. However, teachers should consider following things when they use active learning and ICT in their classes: handouts, student’s inexperience to use LMS, and ways for students to use a smartphone as a monitor.
